Fifth Grade– HRCDS
Mrs. Baust and Mrs. Stinson

Presenting the HRCDS Class of 2008

Graduation Day
Thursday, June 5th, 2008
HRA's Svein Lassen Auditorium
Noon

Spring is in the air, and the children are reaching new milestones each day. Although graduation preparation and anticipation fills the air, the students have an exciting final marking period planned. The next two months are a time of growth, reflection and happiness for these students; they have reached the end of their elementary school experience.

While it is important that we continue to encourage the students to reach their full potential and learn all the skills they will find valuable as they continue their educational pursuits, it should also be remembered that this is a special time in their life. Not for another three years will they have the chance to be the “top dogs” on campus. Nor will they be seen as the “oldest” students with the expectations, responsibilities and liberties that accompany this title- not for at least three years and for most, not until they are seniors.  So, be sure to stop and let them savor the moments and events that abound over the next two months. Expectations are high at Hampton Roads Country Day School, and your children have risen to the challenge with a smile on their face, making the learning process energetic and fun.

This year also marks a huge milestone for the school; a milestone with which these students will forever be linked. This is the final graduating class of Hampton Roads Country Day School, and will be signified at graduation by the honorary speech and attendance of Mrs. Leanne Reynolds, the founding Head of Country Day. As we merge with Hampton Roads Academy and the students enter sixth grade, they will hold the honor of being the last class of HRCDS and the first entering matriculated class into sixth grade at HRA. This is the perfect class to hold this honor. They are sweet, caring, hard-working, intelligent, competitive and athletically active. These traits will serve them well.

Parents too should take this time to marvel at all their children have accomplished. The students have thoroughly enjoyed recapturing their first ten/eleven years in the scrapbook they are creating in English. Please take the time to sit with your child and look through the beautiful time capsules that they have created with these scrapbooks. It may be emotional, but it will also be rewarding.

Now, take a deep breath, look below at all the joyous times to come throughout April and May, and let’s enjoy the final ride! Congratulations fifth graders!

With best wishes to our students and families,

Mrs. Baust and Mrs. Stinson
